Big wave.
You know when you’re at the beach and theres a big wave, you see it coming but you dont move back, you walk towards it. And in no time there is salty ocean water filling up your lungs and up your nose and you are trying to catch your breath. The wave pulls you into a hug that you cant get out of so stop struggling and then water recedes back. You get up pretending to be fine but you know what youve gone through. You sit in the wet sand catching your breath, staring at the waves come and go. But none like the one that almost took you. You went with.
Years pass but you rememeber that feeling everytime you see the ocean or even smell it.
You are back at the beach, standing in the same spot and you see the big wave. You know the feeling. You know what happens. You know how it works. You been here before. You can feel it happening even before it happens. Yet you dont move back. You dig your feet deeper into the sand.
Depression is like that. It never goes. You are never cured. Years will pass from your first brush. From your first attempt. But you will always known when its coming back. And that you cant do anything about it. You welcome it like a frenemy. Your comfortable with it. You are used to it. Its not a new feeling. Definitely unlike the ones you get all the time.
Which is why you will always find me sitting out the smaller waves. Those waves are passing feelings of happiness, anger or sadness, the ones you get when you meet an animals, when the amazing book your reading gets over or when you have a fight. These are top layers. But underneath it all, its salty. You can taste the ocean. The big wave will never leave.
The big wave will take you with it. Soon.
And you know who suffers, everyone else. Because they think you will come back as soon as you see the big wave. They dont know that the big wave is a part of you. It cant be separated anymore. You have to greet it. To them, you getting acquainted to the smaller waves is you forgetting the big wave. But you cant blame them.
You are at the beach and there is a big wave, you see it coming. And you jump in.
